2026 times: churches usually confirm their Christmas services in late November or early December, and we’ll update this page as soon as they do. Until then, the times below are last year’s (2025), as a guide to what to expect.

Holy Trinity Church (Shakespeare’s Church), Old Town

Shakespeare’s burial place is the town’s most popular church at Christmas. Walking up the avenue of lime trees on a December evening is a Stratford tradition in itself. No tickets are needed.

What happened in 2025:

  • Bubble Church Christmas (Sunday before Christmas, 9am): a short, puppet-filled service for young children
  • Quiet Christmas (Sunday before Christmas, 5pm): a gentle service for anyone finding the season hard
  • Nine Lessons and Carols (23 December, 7pm): the classic choral service, with readers from the community. Arrive 30–45 minutes early for a seat in the nave.
  • Walk-through carol service (Christmas Eve, about 3.15pm–5pm): drop in whenever suits and walk through the nativity story, which is ideal for families
  • Midnight Mass (Christmas Eve, 11.30pm)
  • Christmas Day: an 8am said service and a 10am all-age service, where children are invited to bring a present to show

Check this year’s times on the church’s website, stratford-upon-avon.org, or call the parish office on 01789 266316. Ramp access is via the North Door.

St Gregory the Great (Catholic), Warwick Road

Stratford’s Catholic church holds family-friendly Christmas Masses. In 2025: a Children’s Mass on Christmas Eve at 6pm, an evening “Midnight” Mass on Christmas Eve at 9pm (earlier than midnight, so families can attend together), and Christmas Day Masses at 9.30am and 11.15am.

Stratford Methodist Church, Old Town

Close to Holy Trinity, with a much-loved Christingle. In 2025: a carol service on the Sunday before Christmas at 3pm, a Christingle on Christmas Eve at 3pm, and Christmas morning worship at 10.30am.

St Andrew’s, Shottery

A village-church feel on the Anne Hathaway side of town. In 2025: Nine Lessons and Carols on the Sunday before Christmas at 6.30pm, a crib service on Christmas Eve at 4.30pm (children are often invited to dress up), and Midnight Mass at 11.15pm.

Village churches nearby

  • All Saints, Luddington: a traditional carol service on the Sunday before Christmas (3.30pm in 2025). Combine it with a winter walk.
  • St Helen’s, Clifford Chambers: a carol service on the Sunday before Christmas (6.30pm in 2025, featuring the Holy Trinity choir) and a Christingle on Christmas Eve

Tips for Christmas services

  • Arrive early for the big services: Lessons and Carols, Christingles and Midnight Mass fill up fast.
  • Wrap up warm: medieval churches are chilly in December.
  • Parking: there’s no parking at Holy Trinity. Church Street car park (CV37 6HB) is the nearest council car park to Old Town (open to the public on weekday evenings, weekends and bank holidays), and council car parks charge a flat £3.50 from 4pm. See our parking guide.
