Which Stratford station?

Trains call at both stations, a few minutes apart, so pick the one that suits you. Stratford-upon-Avon is the one for the town centre and the theatres; Parkway is the one if you’re driving in, because it has the bigger car park and sits on the edge of town by the A46.

Where the trains go

Stratford is at the end of the line, so trains head north through Parkway. There are three main routes:

  • To Birmingham via Henley-in-Arden (West Midlands Railway): Wilmcote, Wootton Wawen, Henley-in-Arden and Whitlocks End to Birmingham Moor Street and Snow Hill, with many trains running on to Kidderminster.
  • To Birmingham via Dorridge and Solihull (West Midlands Railway): Lapworth, Dorridge and Solihull to Birmingham Moor Street, with many trains running on to Worcester.
  • To Leamington Spa via Warwick (Chiltern Railways): Wilmcote, Bearley, Claverdon, Hatton and Warwick to Leamington Spa, where you can change for London Marylebone.

Birmingham trains run about twice an hour on weekdays, less often on Sundays. West Midlands Railway says the journey to Birmingham Moor Street usually takes around 50 to 55 minutes, and the fastest trains take about 37.

Trains between London and Stratford

London trains use Marylebone, not Euston. Chiltern Railways runs a few direct trains between London Marylebone and Stratford-upon-Avon; for most journeys you change at Leamington Spa (or at Birmingham Moor Street). Allow about two to two and a half hours. Check the Chiltern Railways journey planner for your day, especially at weekends, when engineering work can mean replacement buses. Coming from Oxford? See our Oxford to Stratford-upon-Avon guide.

Parking at the stations

Both stations have pay car parks. Parkway’s is shared with the Bishopton Park & Ride, so it’s the easy choice for a day trip into Birmingham, or for driving to Stratford and taking the train one stop into town. Our Stratford parking guide has prices, a map of every car park and a parking calculator.

From the station into town

From Stratford-upon-Avon station it’s a 10 to 15 minute walk to the town centre: over the Alcester Road bridge, along Greenhill Street and Wood Street. Local taxi firms serve the station. For buses from the station, see our live bus times.

Last trains and getting home after the theatre

RSC evening shows can finish after 10pm. The last trains from Stratford-upon-Avon back to Parkway leave at about 11.15pm Monday to Saturday and about 8pm on Sunday, so Sunday evening visitors should check before they book. The live board above shows the next departures, including delays and cancellations.

Accessibility

National Rail rates both stations step-free (category A), with induction loops and tactile paving. Stratford-upon-Avon has lifts and staff during ticket office hours; Parkway is unstaffed, with help points. To book help, use Passenger Assist. Station notices, such as facilities out of use, appear at the top of the live board.
