Cobbs at Stratford: the closest pumpkin patch
Cobbs’ farm shop on Kings Lane, just off the A46 north of town (CV37 0QA), has a pop-up pumpkin patch open every day from Saturday 17 to Saturday 31 October, 10am to 3pm. There’s no need to book: turn up, choose a small, medium or large pumpkin, and pay as you go. Pumpkins are available while stocks last, and Cobbs suggests coming early rather than waiting until Halloween.
While you’re there, there are farm animals, an outdoor play area and the farm shop café (book a table in half-term). Cobbs also has a Seasonal Makers Market on Saturday 24 October. Leftover pumpkins go to the farm’s pigs, so nothing is wasted.
Lower Clopton Farm Shop, Upper Quinton
About six miles south of Stratford, Lower Clopton’s pick-your-own pumpkin field is open 10am to 3pm on Saturday 17 October, Saturday 24 October and Tuesday 27 to Saturday 31 October.
- Entry: £2.50 a person (under-1s free).
- Pumpkins: 50p to £12, depending on size.
- Dogs: welcome on the pumpkin patch (£2 a dog) and in the marquee next to the café, but not in the café or farm shop.
- What to wear: the pumpkins are in the field where they grow, so the farm warns it will be muddy. Wellies are a must.
The farm shop and café are closed on Sundays and Mondays.
Hilltop Farm, Hunningham
Hilltop Farm near Leamington opened its pumpkin patch on 10 October. Tickets are £2 a person, and pumpkins are priced individually by size and type, paid for after you pick. There’s a farm shop for takeaway drinks and a café; the farm recommends booking a table on busy October weekends.
Pumpkins with a day out
- Hatton Adventure World runs its Halloween Spooktacular daily from 24 October to 1 November, with witches, a new haunted house and a free pumpkin for every child to pick and carve, alongside the farm animals and play areas. Tickets are £21.95, or £19.95 each when you book for four or more.
- Cotswold Farm Park near Guiting Power has pick-your-own pumpkins every day of half-term, with animal barns and indoor play, so it works in the rain. Dogs are welcome.
- Kenilworth Castle has a Great Pumpkin Party from 24 October to 1 November (10am to 4pm), with storytelling, games and a themed trail, included in admission. It’s a pumpkin party rather than a pumpkin patch.

Pumpkins R Us, near Southam

Tips for a pumpkin patch trip
- Go early in the day and early in the season. The best pumpkins go first, and Cobbs sells while stocks last.
- Take wellies and old clothes. Pumpkin fields are muddy, especially after rain.
- Bring cash and a card. Most farms charge separately for entry and for pumpkins.
- Bring a bag or a box for the car. Big pumpkins are heavy.
- Don’t waste the inside. Pumpkin flesh makes soup, curry or cake, and the seeds roast well.
