What we know from last year
Stratford-upon-Avon Town Council runs the Remembrance Sunday commemorations, but it hasn’t posted this year’s running order yet. Last year people gathered from 10.30am for the service and wreath laying, followed by a march past and salute in Church Street, opposite the district council offices. Last year’s Armistice Day afternoon service was a short interfaith service with wreaths laid at the Commonwealth War Graves in Evesham Road Cemetery, starting at 3.45pm, so check the time nearer the day.
Roads closed on Remembrance Sunday
Church Street, Chapel Street, Chapel Lane, Old Town, Southern Lane, College Street, part of Waterside and part of Bull Street close from 7am to noon on Sunday 8 November, according to the Town Council’s closure notice. The Church Street car park will be hard to reach that morning; Bridgeway and Riverside are the closest alternatives (see our parking guide). Every closure is on our road closures page.
Where to get a poppy
The Royal British Legion says poppies have been available since 22 October in supermarkets including Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Asda, as well as high street shops, railway stations and its online Poppy Shop. The Stratford branch is looking for volunteers to help with future appeals; its Poppy Appeal page has the coordinator’s details. Local collection points are on our Remembrance Sunday in Stratford guide, which we’ll update when the Town Council publishes its timings.
