Remembrance Sunday, 8 November

The town’s Remembrance Commemorations are organised by Stratford-upon-Avon Town Council. Last year people gathered from 10.30am at the Garden of Remembrance in Old Town (CV37 6BN), near Holy Trinity Church, for the Service of Remembrance and wreath laying. Afterwards there was a march past and salute in Church Street, opposite the district council offices. It’s free and everyone is welcome. The Town Council hasn’t published this year’s timings yet; we’ll update this page when it does.

Road closures

These roads are closed from 7am to 12 noon on Sunday 8 November, according to the Town Council’s closure notice:

  • Church Street, Chapel Street and Chapel Lane
  • Old Town, Southern Lane and College Street
  • Waterside, from Sheep Street to Southern Lane
  • Bull Street, from Chestnut Walk to Narrow Lane

With Church Street and Old Town shut, the Church Street car park will be hard to reach that morning. Bridgeway Multi-Storey (first hour free) and Riverside are the closest alternatives; see our parking guide. The Waterside Upmarket is usually on Sundays too, so expect the riverside to be busy. All closures are also on our road closures page.

Armistice Day, 11 November

The two-minute silence is at 11am on Wednesday 11 November. Last year the Town Council also held a short interfaith service at 3.45pm at Evesham Road Cemetery, with wreaths laid at the Commonwealth War Graves. We’ll confirm this year’s arrangements when they’re published.

  • Stratford Rotary Club stall opposite the Town Hall: Monday to Friday from 26 October
  • Outside Marks & Spencer, Bridge Street: weekends
  • Maybird Centre: collections at Asda Living, and Stratford Sea Cadets on Saturdays
  • 3rd Stratford Girl Guides at the Waterside Sunday market on 1 November

You can also give or buy a poppy online from the Royal British Legion.
