New double yellow lines come into force outside Stratford-upon-Avon High School on Alcester Road on Monday 2 November. Warwickshire County Council has made the traffic order, which bans waiting at any time on a 54-metre stretch by the school entrance. It matters most to parents who stop on Alcester Road for the school run.

Where the new double yellow lines are
The restriction starts about 25 metres east of the school entrance and runs west for 54 metres, past the entrance. “No waiting at any time” means you can’t park or wait there at any hour, any day; it’s enforced with parking tickets, like the town’s other yellow lines. Blue Badge holders can usually park on double yellow lines for up to three hours, but not where there are loading restrictions, and never where they would cause an obstruction.
Why the county council is doing it
The county’s statement of reasons says the school’s entrance is being widened to make room for pedestrians and for buses dropping pupils off. The plans include crossing points with dropped kerbs and tactile paving, and there’s a new electricity substation at the same access. The existing yellow lines are being extended to match the wider entrance, so the way into the school and the substation is kept clear at all times. The council’s legal grounds are avoiding danger to people and traffic and making it easier for traffic, including people on foot, to get through.
