Stratford’s Christmas lights road closures have been confirmed: six town-centre streets in Stratford-upon-Avon will be closed to traffic from 4am to 10pm on Saturday 14 November for the Christmas lights switch-on. The closure notice was published on 14 October, a month ahead, so it’s worth planning now if you live, work or park in the middle of town.
Which roads close
From 4am until 10pm on Saturday 14 November:
- Bridge Street, from the Market Cross (its junctions with High Street and Union Street) down to Waterside
- Union Street
- Henley Street
- Meer Street
- Wood Street
- High Street
While the order is in force, nobody may drive on these streets or leave a vehicle waiting there, so don’t park on them on the Friday night. Emergency vehicles are exempt, and police officers can let vehicles through. Wilful breach carries a fine of up to £1,000. The order is made by Stratford-on-Avon District Council (Road Closure No. 42) and was signed on 14 October.
What it means on the day
The closure covers the heart of the switch-on: the event runs from 10am to 7pm, and the lights go on at 5.30pm. Our Christmas lights switch-on guide has the programme so far.
- Buses: the stops on Wood Street and Bridge Street are inside the closed area, including the stop the Park & Ride uses in town. The notice doesn’t say where buses will stop instead. We’ll add it when the operators publish it; until then, check our Stratford bus times page on the day.
- Parking: the car parks themselves aren’t in the order, but town fills early on a Saturday. Our Stratford parking guide compares every car park.
- Getting home: the Saturday Park & Ride’s last bus back is normally around 6pm, half an hour after the lights go on. The train is the easy alternative from Stratford-upon-Avon station.
- Deliveries and businesses: anyone who needs vehicle access to these streets on the day should plan for it before 4am or after 10pm.
Other closures coming up
Remembrance Sunday closes Old Town, Church Street and nearby roads the weekend before, on Sunday 8 November. Every current closure is on our Stratford road closures page, and the rest of the season is in our Christmas in Stratford guide.
