Sheep Street in Stratford-upon-Avon faces a weekend closure to traffic on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 October while Cadent Gas fixes a defect left by earlier work. Warwickshire County Council’s closure notice says the job is expected to be finished on Sunday 25 October.

Where the works are
The diversion map with the notice puts the works at the lower end of Sheep Street, near its junction with Waterside, by the Bancroft Gardens and the Royal Shakespeare Theatre. Vehicle access to properties on the street will be kept “where possible”, according to the notice. It doesn’t mention the pavements, and nothing suggests the shops and restaurants on Sheep Street will close.
The diversion
The signed diversion runs from Sheep Street up to High Street and the Market Cross, down Bridge Street to Bridgefoot, along Warwick Road and Bridgeway to Waterside, then on through Southern Lane, Old Town, Church Street and Chapel Street. In practice that’s a loop of most of the old town, so if you’re heading for the theatres or Waterside by car, allow extra time.
A busy weekend for Stratford’s roads
The same weekend is the Runaway Mop. Greenhill Street, Rother Street, Wood Street, Windsor Street and Meer Street are closed from 00:01 on Friday 23 October until 06:30 on Sunday 25 October, and buses use temporary stops on Guild Street. Church Lane in Shottery also closes from Saturday 24 October for two weeks of drainage works. All three are on our Stratford road closures page, and our Stratford parking guide shows which car parks are easiest to reach.
Questions about the works
The notice gives Cadent Gas’s contact number for the works as 01455 232822. Problems with the roadworks themselves can be reported through the county council’s roadworks map or on 01926 412515.
