The Garrick Inn on Stratford’s High Street, one of the oldest pubs in the town, is open again after a refurbishment. The Tudor pub closed in mid-September and reopened on Friday 16 October, as first reported by the Stratford Herald. Its owner, Greene King, now lists it as open every day from 11am.
What’s changed
Greene King told the Herald the bar and dining rooms have new flooring, décor, artwork, lighting and furniture, and the toilets have been fully refurbished, while the building’s old features have been kept. The pub’s general manager is Craig Frayne.
The building is listed at Grade II*, the middle of the three grades, according to the national heritage list entry and Greene King’s own page (the Herald’s report says Grade II). Greene King mentions priest holes among its history. The pub takes its name from the actor David Garrick, who staged the 1769 Shakespeare Jubilee in Stratford.
