Stratford-on-Avon District Council has published the decisions its Cabinet made on Monday 5 October. Here they are in brief, with links to our full story on each one that affects residents.
The main decisions
- Windsor Street car park will be demolished, with three neighbouring buildings, and replaced for now by a smaller surface car park. The decision takes effect on 21 October unless it’s called in. Full story and where to park instead.
- £17,145 for more town centre warden hours, including in council car parks, until March 2027. Full story.
- A planned £38.62-an-hour charge for environmental information requests that take more than 3.5 hours, which Full Council must approve. Full story.
- A board to steer the 10,300-home Long Marston Airfield plan in the draft South Warwickshire Local Plan. Full story.
- A revised Local Plan timetable (the Local Development Scheme) was recommended, to take effect from 12 October (decision).
Also decided
- Community asset transfers: new guidance on handing council-owned land and buildings to community groups was approved, and officers can now agree transfers under it (decision).
- Community facilities on big new estates: the council will prepare a 2027/28 budget bid to keep its “Community Builders” working in Stratford-upon-Avon and Bidford-on-Avon, Shackleton and Meon Vale, and draw up guidance so community facilities arrive in good time on large developments (decision).
- Local government reorganisation: the Cabinet noted an update after the Minister for Local Government told councils on 7 September to stop work on implementing the reorganisation decisions announced on 16 July. A timetable for reviewing those decisions was expected later in October, and a breakdown of the council’s direct costs so far is to be added to the minutes (decision).
- Heart of England Forest: funding for climate and nature projects, covered in our grants story.
- Staffing: two new information governance posts (an officer and an apprentice), shared with Warwick District Council, which splits the cost.
