Join the Sunday Coach Walk to Stratford-upon-Avon this January 25th
If your New Year’s resolution to “get outside more” has stalled slightly in the mid-January gloom, here is the perfect opportunity to restart. The Birmingham Ramblers have announced a major Coach Walk event heading straight for our doorstep on Sunday, January 25, 2026.
This isn’t just a stroll around the park; it’s a full day of guided hiking designed to showcase the stunning winter landscape of the Warwickshire countryside, ending in the heart of Stratford-upon-Avon for a well-earned tea (or something stronger).
What is a Coach Walk?
For those uninitiated, the “Coach Walk” is a fantastic social tradition. Hikers meet in Birmingham to board a coach, which drops groups off at various starting points in the countryside surrounding Stratford. The groups then walk back towards the town center, converging for a social finish.
It’s a great way for locals to meet new people, or for Stratford residents to actually join the walk by arranging to meet the groups at the drop-off points.
Something for Every Ability
One of the best features of this event is the tiered difficulty system. You don’t need to be an elite mountaineer to take part. The day is split into three categories:
- The ‘A’ Walk: For the hardy hikers. Expect a long distance (12+ miles) at a brisk pace, likely starting further out near the Cotswold border and yomping back to the RSC.
- The ‘B’ Walk: A moderate distance (7-9 miles), perfect for regular walkers who want to enjoy the scenery without sprinting.
- The ‘C’ Walk: A shorter, more leisurely ramble (4-6 miles), focusing on taking in the views and enjoying the fresh air.
Why Join?
Winter walking in Stratford is underrated. The frost on the river banks and the quiet of the fields offer a completely different perspective to the summer tourist rush. Plus, walking in a group provides safety and motivation.
The groups are expected to arrive in Stratford town center around 4:30 PM, bringing a buzz to local cafes and pubs. If you are a local business owner, get the hot chocolates ready!
