Design changes to Wolverton homes signed off at district planning meeting: Roundup

Stratford-on-Avon District Council’s planning committee signed off a series of decisions this week, affecting everything from supported housing in Southam to access and parking arrangements in Stratford town centre and changes to homes in Wolverton.

Here are the main decisions agreed at the meeting.

Southam: specialist supported housing at former police station approved

Councillors approved plans for a 21-unit specialist supported housing scheme on the site of the former Southam police station.

The development will provide purpose-built accommodation for residents with additional support needs, replacing the disused station buildings with a new block of self-contained units and associated facilities. Planning officers had recommended approval, noting both the reuse of a brownfield site and the identified local need for this type of housing.

The committee agreed, granting permission subject to the usual conditions on design, materials and management of the site.

Stratford: Yeomanry Mews bollards approved instead of full gates

In Stratford, members backed revised access changes at Yeomanry Mews off Old Town after a previous bid for full-height gates drew 42 objections.

The new proposal replaces the earlier gated scheme with bollards, aimed at controlling vehicle access while maintaining visibility and a more open feel to the entrance. Objectors had raised concerns about the impact of solid gates on the character of the area and on pedestrian movement.

Planning officers said the bollard option struck a better balance between security and streetscape impact. Councillors agreed and granted permission for the bollards to go ahead.

Wolverton: design changes to local market dwelling accepted

The committee also signed off a set of design changes to an already-approved local market dwelling in Wolverton.

The amendments cover alterations to materials and external appearance rather than the overall scale or principle of development, which had been agreed previously. Officers advised that the revised design remained in keeping with the village setting and did not raise any new planning concerns.

Councillors accepted the updated plans and approved the changes as a minor material amendment.

Other items

Alongside these headline decisions, the committee dealt with a number of smaller or more routine applications later in the agenda, including minor alterations to existing properties and technical conditions on previously approved schemes.
